Michigan State QB Connor Cook ‘Disappointed’ That He’s Not a Captain

Connor Cook has to be a captain without having the official title.

Connor Cook is probably deserving of captaincy. But then again, so are Shilique Calhoun, Kurtis Drummond and Travis Jackson.

Such is life in the big city, or in this case, East Lansing.

While somewhat upset about being overlooked by his teammates at Michigan State, Cook, the 2014 Rose Bowl MVP, is taking things in stride, per MLive.com’s Mike Griffith

“I was a little disappointed not to get voted (a team captain),” Cook said. “But I’m still a quarterback, and I’m going to do whatever I possibly can to lead this team, and try to be a leader any way possible.”

According to Griffith, Cook isn’t looking at the situation as a snub. Instead, the 6’4″, 215-pound redshirt junior pointed to the several leaders who surround him and vowed to do everything in his power to lead the Spartans.

“I was on the leadership council in the spring, but there are just so many guys on this team that are really good leaders,” Cook said. “(But) I was surprised I wasn’t on it (leadership council.). I’m out there busting my butt every single day trying to be a leader, because as a quarterback, you’re assumed a leadership position.”
