Ontario Hockey League roundtable w/ Flint hockey hero Bobby Reynolds, Cory Butzin of MLive and former Warriors/Generals voice Joe Battaino

The www.a2iwheelandtire.com guestline presents Bobby Reynolds, Cory Butzin and Joseph Battaino during Friday’s Ontario Hockey League-heavy episode of Sports in the Mitten with Adam Biggers and John Gustin.

With news of the OHL’s Plymouth Whalers moving to Flint in time for the 2015-16 season, SITM wanted to celebrate by extending invitations to a few familiar people: Before starring at Michigan State (1985-1989), Reynolds, a Flint native, was drafted by Toronto in the 1985 NHL entry draft. However, he’s best known, at least in these parts, for skating with the Flint Generals (1998, 1999-2000; 2001-2005) and Detroit Vipers (1998-1999).

The Flint Powers Catholic grad joins the program to discuss the OHL’s potential impact on local hockey culture and what it means for the community to once again house a high-level team.

Butzin covers the Saginaw Spirit for MLive/Saginaw News and knows the OHL from top to bottom. He joins us to discuss specifics of the league, which goes to great lengths to ensure a bright future for its players, who can be as young as 15.

He’ll also give us an insider’s look at the potential of a heated I-75 rivalry between Saginaw and Flint, a pair of cities with rich hockey tradition and a strong, competitive dislike for one another.

Prior to taking a position with the NAHL’s Odessa Jackalopes, Battaino called Warriors and Generals games on Flint’s Super Talk 1570. He’s from Michigan and knows hockey through and through. He joins us to discuss how the new team in town can avoid past team’s mistakes and to tell us why the “O” is heads and shoulders above the current NAHL product.
